Wednesday 7 October - to Dallas!

Pick up with DOTS (Daytona Orlando Travel Service) was 7.30am.  So David and I were up at 5.30 making sure we were all organized, packed, and breakfasted.  Arrived Orlando airport and left our bags with the United Baggage service for $5.  2.5 hr flight to Houston, about a 3hr layover, 1.5hrs to Dallas.  Last flight was good, on an Embraer 175 – took only 45 minutes!  Our bags were waiting for us outside t he Baggage Collection Service office when we rrived.  Cart.  Shuttle to rental cars.  Budget.  Michael – upgraded from Ford Festiva to a Kia Soul  Lime grren!  Off to the Super 8 and checked in.  Denny’s for dinner, wine from the servo next door.

Tuesday 6 October

Drove to Flagler for our last brekky at the Funky Pelican.  The weather was better than the last time we were there but the waves were still pounding the pier.  The boys rode up on the motorcycles and got kinda wet in the rain….  On the way back, they took ‘The Loop’ which is a nice ride with gentle twists and turns.  Lesley and went shopping – Bealls Outlet then to Bealls to see about the half price clearance items!  Success – we had a ball finding some lovely clothing items.  Grabbed salad lunches again from Publix.  Spent the afternoon packing…..  ot always fund and a lot of problem solving involved with keeping items safe and the whole bag under 50lbs (23kg) in weight!

Jimmy and Joe – Jim’s boys – arrived for a visit – had some beers and catching up.

Off to Don Pepper’s (Mexican restaurant) for dinner....

Monday 5 October - Daytona

Jim and David worked on the guzzi engine, trying to get it started.  Lesley had to have a blood test, se was fasting but she cooked eggs and potatoes for us!  I went with her, she dropped me at Lelaire Plaza whilst she was at the dentist and blood testing place (vampire house).  I went through Dollar Tree, Publix, Bealls and Marshalls before Lesley came back to pick me up.  We had brekky at the diner – chocolate chip pancake with cinnamon?
Went to eh UPS store and bought a packing container.  Realised that there would be a sale at Beall’s tomorrow on clearance items and decided to go again tomorrow!

Brought home Publix Caesar salad for lunch.  That night we went to Tia Cori’s Diner (Mexican -
yum !) for dinner.  Jimmy joined us!

Sunday 4 October - Daytona

Up early and on the road to meet Ron Hewitt at Papa’s for breakfast!

He has the latest model Can Am spyder and David enjoyed having a look at the improvements.  Came back and went to the RV Show at the Daytona Speedway. Lunch at Pantheon Italian restaurant.  Jim and David wen to the Chrome Bar in Main St to watch the Bills play the Giants.  Lesley and I were at home catching up on things….  David and I went to the Starlite Diner for a quick dinner.

Saturday 3 October - time to leave!

Saturday 3 October
Bid a sad farewell to Key West where we’ve had a great time.  Jim estimated that the drive home would take about 8 hours so we had to get going.  We left about 8.30, the weather was clear and fine.  We stopped at the Coral Castle.

Kept driving through the afternoon.  Ended up at Dixie Crossroads for a shrimp dinner.  Arrived back in Daytona about 9pm…

Key West, Friday, 2 October

Breakfast served at 8.30 – enjoyed a little sleep in!  About 10 we left, having spoken to the office lady, Ramsey, about tickets for the Old Town Trolley tour.  We had to walk a little way to the trolley stop, they come about every half hour.  Did the tour around the whole of Key West – heard the history and interesting tales…. ‘Did you know that at this point on the map that you are closer to Cuba than to a Walmart?’

Ended the tour back at Mallory Square to do a spot of shopping – Lesley and I bought locally made leather ‘flip flops’ for $20 and a few other things.  Lunch at the Conch Republic Seafood Company, right in the harbor where the fishing boats had returned from their morning trips and were filleting fish and feeding the tarpon.  Some impressive and fairly big fishing vessels there….
