Lesley cooked brekky and we organized ourselves to
leave for Sandford. It was overcast and
rain squally weather. By the time we got
to Sandford about an hour later, it was raining. We walked around the street and decided to
try the German restaurant for an early lunch.
Delicious schnitzel, potato pancakes and triple chocolate cheesecake!
Drove around the town and down to the pier. Found a Goodwill Store and stopped for a
look…. Interesting people in there! The
weather had somewhat cleared so we decided to try and find the airboat ride
place that Jim and Lesley had seen on a previous visit. Ventured into the store to ask about the
possibility of a trip, the young man checked the radar for a little while and
then declared – I think you’ll be ok to go – if you don’t mind getting a little
wet!
Capt Steve took us out. 500hp engine on an airboat built for 15
people – there were just the four of us.
It was overcast but no rain, not cool in the breeze. We went through marshes and grasses – seeing
some cattle, a bald eagle, birds and the best part – Capt Steve sidled up to an
alligator nest – with at least three week old baby gators sitting atop the reeds. They were camouflaged and he said that momma
was underneath and not to put our hands anywhere near those babies!
Upon our return we ventured into the restaurant
where they had half price drinks – had to sip a margarita and beers. Headed off about 5pm and rang Jimmy to let
him know we were going to La Fiesta Mexican restaurant for dinner – he met us
there after fixing his truck in the rain….
Laughed our way through the meal, the food was delicious and the special
drink of the day was a margarita!
