Thursday 1 October - to Key West, Florida!

Easier drive today from Florida City down to the Keys.  Weather was fine and blue sky, a little hot for me – 90F.  Found an AT&T store in Marathon, the gentleman was very helpful and sorted out our passcode for us.  The tropical colour of the water was clearly evident with the sun shining on it.  We stopped at the Sunset Grille in Marathon for lunch – great view of the bridge and bay.  Lesley and I got the giggles sitting on an enormous deck chair for a picture!

The view from the Sunset Grille at lunch!

Plenty to see on the way down and if you stopped at every interesting thing you’d spend another week getting there.  Three green iguanas were sitting on a cement walking path as we drove along.  Found our accommodation at Author’s Key quite easily and were able to get a park out the front.  Our rooms were air conditioned and we liked the gardens.  A very pretty place to stay!

David and I walked down to Duval Street having a look around.  Lots to see!  We did a spot of shopping then found a bar to have a liquid refreshment.  Jim and Lesley arranged to meet us.  Found our way down to Mallory Square, Jim spoke to one of the trolley drivers who told him the best place to eat – ‘Two Friends” bar – which had a happy hour from 4-7pm.  Off we went and enjoyed some music there whilst we ate.

The Two Friends bar & restaurant!
Happy Hour!

We left about 6.45 to walk back to Mallory because it is the best advantage point to see the sunset.  Lots and lots of people, street actors, stalls and food!   Even though there were a few clouds we managed to have good view of the sunset and the boats in the bay.
